Frequently asked questions:
If you already have a PlaySafelySports account and/or your CoachSafely certification, you still need to fill out this form. Completing this form will enable you to organize your coaches, notify them of the certification requirement and direct them to the course, and monitor their certification status against your facility use agreement start date. Additionally, this process inputs your organization into the school’s certification compliance dashboard which is required as part of your facility use agreement.
If any of your coaches are currently certified and their certification status will be valid through the end of your facility use agreement term, those coaches will not need to take additional action. It is still required that you include all coaches when you upload your list. Coach certification status will appear on your dashboard.
If you do not have your full coach list at this time, you can upload once you finalize your list. You can also upload a partial list and add individual coaches as they come in. It is just required that your full coach list be certified by the start date of your facility use agreement.
Anyone who may serve in a coaching role should complete the training to secure their CoachSafely certification.
It is required that all coaches using Jefferson County Schools facilities be CoachSafely certified by the start date of their agreement. Schools have full visibility into the certification status of your coaches and your facility use agreement start date. If your organization is at risk of reaching 100% certification by your start date, the school will be in contact with you. It is also recommended that all coaches save their CoachSafely certificate to their mobile device so that they have it on hand when using Jefferson County School facilities.
The Coach Safely Act was established in 2018. It is critical for our state institutions and greater community to uphold the law to protect the safety of Alabama’s young athletes. We are proud to partner with PlaySafelySports to ensure coaches and parents obtain essential knowledge of young athlete injury risk and methods for effective injury prevention, recognition, and triage.
It is recommended that anyone who may serve in a coaching role complete the training to secure their CoachSafely certification. The course is funded by the state of Alabama so there is no cost to coaches or parents. Additionally, parents/guardians are uniquely positioned to observe athletes off the field where they can identify signs of injury and/or emotional distress, and react accordingly if a related emergency arises.
